Billy Teddy Rathbun, 89, of Adairsville, Georgia died Thursday, August 5, 2021. He was born on May 22, 1932, in Fitzgerald, Georgia to the late Alice Rathbun. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Patsy Jo, Hollett, and Bonnie.

Billy served in the U.S. Military as a Marine from 1949 until 1962. He served in the first Marine Division under the legendary Chesty Puller at the Battle of Chosen Reservoir during the Korean War. His later life included working for Citizen Fidelity Bank, being a Georgia State Policeman, an Army Reserve Recruiter, and retiring in 2015 from Gordon Hospital.

Billy loved God, his family, his church, his pets, his friends, and new life experiences. He thoroughly enjoyed his volunteer work at Gordon Hospital after retiring. He always had an interesting story to tell and a willing audience to listen. He was a member of the Chatsworth Seven-Day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Sue C. Rathbun; children, Steven (Gennie) Rathbun of Perkins, Milton (Debra) Rathbun of Fitzgerald, Allison Ratcliff of Chesterton, IN, Michael (Melissa) Hans of Cartersville; stepson, Paul (Sook) Hopkins of Fulton, MD; twelve grandchildren, Joseph Rathbun, Amber Jones, Stephanie Carroll, Courtney Harbuck, Trystan Ratcliff, Isabella Ratcliff, Evan Hans, Madison Rathbun, Jasper Hans, Haley Hopkins, Gionna Pinkston, Braden Hopkins; and five great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, from 1:00 pm until 3:00 pm at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. The funeral will follow the visitation at 3:00 pm from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Pastor Wendell Stover and Pastor Tony Kimbley officiating. Burial will follow in the Georgia National Cemetery on Thursday, August 26, 2021. Billy's grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.

The family wants to thank all those at Tapestry Hospice and especially Hospice Angels Cindy, Serene, and Heather, who gave such compassionate care in his final ten months.
