Obituary

Benny Vernon Hall, age 70, of Resaca, passed away on Sunday, September 11th at his home after several months of declining health.

Benny was born May 3, 1952, to the late Vernon Hall and Leonia Clark Hall at the Johnston Hall Clinic in Calhoun, Georgia.

Benny was employed by Norfolk Southern Railroad from January 1977 until retirement in August 2009. He returned to work at Sandersville Railroad from October 2009 to December 2013.

He was a 1970 graduate of Calhoun High School. Benny enjoyed running, cross country, and track under the leadership of Coach Lynn Walter. He was a member of the first-ever Calhoun High School cross country team. Benny joined the Marine Reserves to serve his country from 1970 until 1974. He was a member of the Reeves Station Baptist Church having been baptized by Rev. John O'Neal.

Benny’s favorite pastime was hunting, fishing, and enjoying time with his friends in his garage telling tales. As one of his many friends said, “Benny was a lively handful, that you couldn’t help but love.”

Benny is survived by one brother, Danny Lamar, and his wife, Mona. Nieces, Lisa Hall Showalter (Jeff) and Laura Lynn Hall also survive him along with great nieces and nephews, Hannah, Sarah, Benjamin, Claire, and John Daniel Showalter.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, the 15th of September at 3:00 PM at the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are Scott DeFoor, Jeff Showalter, Chuck Hall, John Hefner, Brian Thomas, and Shane Hall.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until the hour of service at 3:00 PM.
