Calhoun

Waymond R. Scott, a respected member of the Calhoun community, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 28th, 2024, his 89th birthday, surrounded by his loving family.

Waymond was born in Gordon County to Colquitt and Gladys Scott as the fourth of seven children. He began his academic journey at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, initially pursuing an Agricultural degree. However, following careful consideration, he graduated with a degree in Mathematics and Physics. This educational foundation paved the way for a successful career in Aerospace Engineering, where he contributed his talents to engineering teams for the Space Shuttle, helicopters, airplanes, and hovercrafts at companies such as Sikorsky, Lockheed, Gulf Stream, and Martin Marietta.

In 1957, Waymond married the love of his life, Kathleen Payne, and their union flourished for 67 beautiful years until his passing. Together, they were blessed with five children, whom they raised with love and dedication. After years of travel for work, Waymond and Kathleen returned to Calhoun, where they built a home for their family.

Waymond is survived by his devoted wife Kathleen, three siblings, five children, ten grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. His surviving siblings include his brothers Duane and Clinton, and sister Jeri. His children are Waymond R. Scott Jr. (Beverly) of Lilburn, Cindy Fowler (Paul) of Adairsville, Angela Moore of Grayson, Selina Cantelou of Melbourne, FL, and Michael Scott (Penny) of Suwanee. He was preceded in death by his brothers Rayford and Kenneth, sister Moleen and his son-in-law, Ken Moore.

Following his retirement, Waymond and Kathleen embarked on adventures in their RV, relishing in the freedom of the open road. Waymond had a passion for beekeeping and found solace in tending to his garden and farm machinery, hobbies that brought him immense joy in his later years. His legacy of hard work, love for family, and appreciation for the simple pleasures of life will be remembered fondly by those who knew him.

A celebration of Waymond's life will be held on April 4th at Max Brannon ans Sons Funeral Home at 3:00 pm with visitation from 2:00 till 3:00. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and pay their respects.
