Vina Lee Sobczak

Vina Sobczak, 71, of Calhoun. Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026. She was born in Starke, Florida, on April 2, 1955, to the late William and Mary Collins.

She is survived by her son, Abraham (Jill) Sobczak; daughters, Rebekah Waid, Rachel (Jason) Gingerich, Amanda (Adam) Duvall; brothers, Edwin (Penny) Collins, Douglas (Terri) Collins, Christopher (Barbara) Collins; grandchildren, Easton Sobczak, Lima and Noohra Waid, Cana, Abraham, Genesis, and Selah Jo Gingerich.

Vina was a woman who loved genuinely, laughed often, and never seemed to run out of stories. From an early age, she developed a deep love for reading and learning, and throughout her life she especially enjoyed discovering new and unusual words. Vina, Gigi, loved telling jokes, sharing stories from her life, and making up silly stories and songs for her grandchildren. She treasured the time spent with her daughters and son, including the summers spent visiting her son while he served in the Air Force. They created memories she would cherish and talk about for years to come. She grew up in an Army family, so she moved frequently and even lived overseas. She loved telling family and friends about the adventures of being the only girl with three brothers and of the places she had lived and traveled, like Germany and skiing in the Alps. Vina eventually made Calhoun her home for 40 years. Vina also loved gardening when she homeschooled her daughters. She adored flowers and bird watching too. Her favorite being a hummingbird.

Vina was deeply devoted to her parents, William and Mary Collins, and remained incredibly close to them throughout her life. She spent much of her life living near them, cherishing their relationship and the love and example they gave her. Their faith, their love for Jesus, and their devotion to family helped lay the foundation for the faith that would become such a defining part of Vina’s own life.

Vina’s faith in her Savior was central to who she was. She spoke openly and unashamedly about her love for the Lord with anyone she encountered. She made herself available to talk with anyone who needed someone to listen, and if you asked Vina to pray for you, you could be certain that she would. She loved to sing and listen to Christian music and the oldies, and her love for the Lord remained steadfast even in the darkest of circumstances.

Her family and friends will remember Vina as someone truly special—a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend whose love for her family and her Savior was immense, abundant, and true. She loved the Lord not only in the joyful seasons of life, but also through its deepest valleys, and that unwavering faith will remain part of the legacy she leaves behind.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at 11:00 AM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
