Steve Hood

He led a fascinating life. He was born in Gadsden, Alabama on March 20, 1940. He was the 1st child and only son born to his parents, the late Stephen Hood Sr and Nellie Hood Ashley. He was preceded in death by his daughter in 2019, Brenda Gail Borg.

 

"Papa Steve" as he was affectionately known to his step-kids had a fascination for race cars from an early age. He owned and raced a red corvette on a dragstrip track all over the South East with "Hood and Payne Racing" emblazoned on the side of the car. He also owned and ran a gas station on Memorial Drive before establishing himself as a teamster and enjoying a long and fruitful career in the film and tv industry. Once Hollywood came calling Papa Steve never looked back. He worked and traveled all over the country and once internationally in Costa Rica meeting and working for every major studio in existence and almost every major movie star that has graced the big or small screen. He said many times over that Burt Reynolds and Jamie Lee Curtis were by far the nicest celebrities he had ever worked for. He was also known for wearing fancy cologne and had a deep appreciation and knowledge for all things nascar and football. 

 

Papa Steve also liked to enjoy a "toddy for the body" when he wanted to enjoy a cocktail. 

 

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Mashburn Hood, of 31 years; sons, Stevie (Nikki) Hood, Tony (Charity) Hood, Brannon (Nikki) Fain, Brook (Laura) Fain, Blake (Jennifer) Fain; daughters, Renee Kitchens, Wanda (David) Kennedy, Adrienne Hood, Jana (Steven) Fain Rossen, Kanessa Fain; sister, Lola Taylor; and a numerous amount of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
