Rev. Stanton Raymond Erwin, age 88 of Calhoun, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at Gordon Hospital.

Rev. Erwin was born in Gordon County on September 7, 1919, son of the late Lon F. Erwin and the late Lone Alice Cochran Erwin. He was retired from Bostik Industries, and was a minister for more than fifty years. He was a member of Victory Temple Church of God. During his ministry he was a pastor in Gordon County, and Bartow, Pickens and Murray Counties.

Rev. Erwin was preceded in death by three brothers; J.W. Pendley, Joseph "Jimbo" Erwin and Gerald Erwin, four sisters; Sudie Cline, Annie Mae Blalock, Geneva Powell and Willie Nell McDearis, and by one grandson, Parrish Erwin.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Jo Thomas Erwin, to whom he was married for sixty-eight years; four sons and daughters-in-law; Ray and Linda Erwin, Randy and Wilma Erwin, Danny and Benita Erwin, and Tim and Pam Erwin; and three daughters and sons-in-law; Charlotte and Lamar Tomlinson, Alice and Mickey Pass and Debbie and Henry Hunter. Seventeen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.

Funeral Services for Rev. Stanton Raymond Erwin will be conducted Friday at 2:00 p.m., from the Erwin Hill Church of God, with Rev. Jeff Dutton, Rev. Ken Coomer, and Dr. James Shope officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Grandsons will serve as active pallbearers. The family will begin receiving friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home on Thursday after 4:00 p.m.
