Sandra Gail Crunkelton Langston "Nanny"

A light dimmed in this world when Sandra Gail Crunkelton Langston, age 80, known lovingly as "Nanny", passed away peacefully in her Calhoun home on May 1st, 2025 surrounded by those who loved her most. Born October 21st, 1944, to J.D. Crunkelton and Mary Ann Stephens Crunkelton, Sandra learned early the value of hard work and caring for others.

After graduating from Pepperell High School, Sandra’s career took her through Crown Craft, Thompson, Robb & Purcell doctor’s office, Eastside Elementary School, and finally to Plainville City Hall Clerk's Office. She was also a member of East Calhoun Church of God.

But her most treasured role was that of wife and mother. For 49 years she shared her life with Thomas “Tommy” Lamar Langston until his passing in 2011. Their home became a soft landing pad for everyone who entered. It was a place where you were always welcome at any time, any day.

Sandra never backed down from life’s challenges. She met each obstacle head-on with bravery. No matter what life threw her way, she simply kept going, step by step. She was fiercely independent even in the face of complex medical challenges. Sandra exemplified what it truly meant to walk with grit and perseverance each day.

The pride of her life was in her three daughters: Rhonda Renee Mealor (Michael Mealor), Regina Langston King (Michael King), and Kasey Langston Wilson (late husband Sam Wilson). Her six grandchildren brought her so much joy: Kendra Hyde, Kirbi Kendrick (Whit Kendrick), Logan King (Nikki King), Lexuss King (Jeremy King), Cooper Wilson, and Cohen Wilson. And her heart overflowed for her ten great-grandchildren: Easton, Sawyer, Bodi, Blayke, Banks, Makenley, Maylee, Marley Jo, Madden, and Langston, with another blessing, Wren, on the way.

But perhaps nowhere was Nanny's love more tangibly felt than from her kitchen. Her hands filled tables with recipes that became the DNA of gatherings. Her chocolate gravy wasn't just a recipe – it was a tradition that brought everyone to the table, eager for her special brand of love. Sandra shined during Christmas. She had a magical way of transforming little celebrations into vibrant memories. The smells of her cakes, pies, cookies and divinity candy were eagerly enjoyed each year. Most of all, Sandra infused the importance of family, pride, and strength into every aspect of life. Her legacy lives on in the traditions she created and the memories that will forever taste like home.
