Robert "Bob" Allen Orfield

Bob Orfield (b. May 28, 1958) died on August 24, 2026 following a cardiac arrest. He spent his life in service to the well-being of children and their futures. In his 30 years as an educator and administrator at Calhoun City Schools, he modeled the diligence and integrity of a life devoted to learning. Before transplanting his roots to Georgia, he was born in Elizabethton, TN where he was a proud Betsy Cyclone.

Bob served in the United States Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz as an Approach Air Traffic Controller. He became one the few naval personnel that became a “Blue Nose Shellback”. A Blue Nose is someone that has sailed crossed the Arctic Circle and a Shellback is someone that sailed across the equator. He completed 3 nine-month tours on the USS Nimitz that introduced him to his best friend whose sister turned out to be the love of his life.

He leaves behind his devoted wife, Vicki, his son and daughter-in-law, Marcus and Juhyun, his daughter Megan, and his niece/honorary daughter, Heather Honeycutt (Jeremy). His storytelling lit up every room he entered. He will be sorely missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Hubert Orfield and Peggy West, and his brothers, Danny and Jamey West. He is survived by his sisters: Sherry Hicks, Margaret Ryans (Larry), Billie Grindstaff, Cindy Crawford (Doug), and Jo Phillips.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:30 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Boys and Girls Club in Bob’s Memory to P.O. Box 700 Calhoun, GA 30703.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Bob Orfield.
