Robert Mitchell Dutton

Mitchell Dutton, age 67, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, at his residence following a heart attack. He was born on March 18, 1956, and was the only child of the late Billy Mitchell Dutton and Wyonelle Henderson Dutton.


Mitch was a graduate of Calhoun High School- Class of 1974. He graduated from Valdosta State College with a fine arts degree in radio, television, and film.

 
Mitch attended Farmville United Methodist Church in Calhoun, Georgia, as a youth and was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church. 


Mitch had a passion for music. Mitch was a drummer in a seventeen-piece orchestra in Tallahassee, Florida, in his younger years. He has been a member of various bands throughout his lifetime.


Mitch loved being with his family and friends. He enjoyed nature, music, and traveling, especially to the North Georgia Mountains, Tybee Island, and St. Augustine, Florida. 

Mitch began a very long career in radio, television, and film. He began in college at WVVS in Valdosta, Georgia. Mitch also worked at WGAF, WGOV, and WVSC in television. He worked for many years at WEBS in Calhoun, Georgia. Mitch retired from the Georgia Lottery in 2015 after working there for over seventeen years. 


Everyone who knew Mitch Dutton would say he was the kindest, most compassionate, loving, gentlest, unique soul they had ever met.


Survivors include Sandra Mitchell Richardson, his soulmate and companion; her two children; four grandchildren; and much-loved cousins and friends. 


A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Farmville United Methodist Church, 6906 Fairmount Hwy SE, Calhoun, GA 30701.


The memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2023, at 11:00 AM from Farmville United Methodist Church with Rev. Eddie Brannon and Keith Beason officiating. 


There will be no graveside services, but the interment will be at Erwin Hill Church in Sonoraville, next to his beloved parents. Honorary pallbearers are Sandra Mitchell Richardson's grandchildren, Noah Lake Richardson, Brooke Victoria Richardson, Max William Richardson, and Rex McClain Richardson.
