Robert James Kinsey

December 15, 1941 — March 28, 2026

Robert James Kinsey, 84, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family. He was born December 15, 1941, to the late Jody and Dorthey Jackson Kinsey.

Robert was preceded in death by his siblings, Danny Kinsey, Jerry Fite, Martha Cloer, and Bonnie Moss; and by his beloved grandsons, Ben Burns, Cody Johns, and Brandon Johns, whom he loved dearly and held close in his heart.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Laura Lynn Kinsey, along with his children: Derrick Kinsey (Beth), Jody Jarrett (Kim), Mike Johns, Mitchell Johns (Dora), Dreama Wofford, and Michelle Johns. He was also a proud grandfather to Gage Kinsey, Ian Kinsey, John Wofford, Alex Jarrett, Emily Jarrett, Ella Jarrett, Josh Gregory (Caitlin), Caleb Johns, and Brooke Holden (Stevie), each of whom brought him great joy.

Robert will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, and a man whose life was firmly rooted in faith. A devout Christian with a kind and gentle spirit, Robert dedicated much of his life to serving others and sharing the love of Christ.

For 17 years he served in ministry as a foreign missionary, traveling to Peru, Africa, India, Israel, and throughout the Amazon. His heart for service continued at home as well, where he faithfully ministered to residents through a nursing home ministry for 15 years and served as a deacon at Meadowdale Baptist Church for 17 years. He was a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church for 25 years before later attending First Baptist Woodstock for eight years.

Robert’s ministry extended beyond the church walls. For many years he worked for Yellow Freight as a professional transportation driver, safely traveling more than three million miles. Even while on the road, he found ways to share his faith and encourage those he met along the way.

Outside of his work and ministry, Robert enjoyed the simple blessings of life. He loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, being outdoors, and caring for animals. He also had a special appreciation for antique cars. Some of his happiest moments were gathered around the table with loved ones, sharing stories and a home-cooked meal.

Robert’s life was one of quiet strength, steadfast faith, and genuine kindness. The legacy he leaves behind is one of love, service, and devotion to God and family—values that will continue to live on in the many lives he touched.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Hymen Hospice, Leamon Smith, Faye and Ron Bentley, and many caring friends for their kindness, support, and compassion during this time.

The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Robert James Kinsey.
