Rita Diann Cortazal

Rita Diann Cortazal, 61, of Resaca, Georgia passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2023.  She was born in Guntersville, Alabama on May 01, 1962, to the late JR and Mary Ruth Geckles.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Manuel Cortazal; brothers, Billy Ray, Timmy, and Tommy Geckles; sister Angela Geckles.

She is survived by her loving husband of thirty-two years, Joseph “Joey” Cortazal; daughters, Jennifer Geckles, Krystal Cortazal; sister, Cynthia Croft; grandchildren, Christian Deis, Elijah Deis, Dija Jackson, Walter Henriquez, Gabriella “Gabby” Leon, Jovanni “Joe” Leon, Kevin “Toby” Villamar, Luke Villamar; great-grandchildren, Bentley Deis, Johnathan Deis; other relatives including Betty Todd, Irma and Beno Rowe, Cindy James, Nelson Cortazal, David Cortazal, Sally Cortazal, Louie Cortazal, Derrick Jackson, and Kevin Villamar.

Sister Rita was a member of Dalton Free Holiness Church, and loved to attend service when she was able.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 21, 2023, from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons with Rev. Ed Atchley officiating.  Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.  Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 21, at Max Brannon and Sons from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM.
