Obituary

Rita Ann McBrayer, age 72, of Calhoun, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at Redmond Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.

Rita was born April 1, 1950 in Gordon County, the daughter of the late Floyd Bearden and Artie Whitfield Bearden, and was the youngest of seven children. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Garrett, and a brother, Donald Bearden. She was a 1968 graduate of Red Bud High School and was married on November 20, 1968, to Roy Lee McBrayer. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked for many years as a Nursing Assistant and Personal Healthcare Provider, work she greatly enjoyed. She was a lifelong resident of Gordon County and a member of the Damascus Baptist Church.

Rita McBrayer is survived by her husband of more than 53 years, Roy McBrayer of Calhoun, Georgia; daughter Connie McBrayer Post (Michael) of Laurens, South Carolina; son Ronnie McBrayer (Cindy) of Freeport, Florida; and son Timothy McBrayer of Calhoun, Georgia. Grandchildren include Blayze (Lilly), Bryce (Leslie), and Braden McBrayer; Colton, Cadence, Jaden, Haven, and Bria Post; and Giles McBrayer.

Surviving siblings include Lamar Bearden, Ray Bearden, Kay Rutledge, and Jerry Bearden. Numerous nephews, nieces, and extended family also survive.

The family will receive visitors on Monday, May 9, 2022, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Damascus Baptist Church: 152 Damascus Road, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 PM in the church sanctuary. Rev. Lamar Bearden and Rev. Ronnie McBrayer will officiate with Jackie McDaniel in charge of the music. Serving as pallbearers will be Jared Smith, Derek Parker, Blayze McBrayer, Bryce McBrayer, Colton Post, and Braden McBrayer.

Interment will follow at the Haven of Rest Memorial Park with Rev. Terry Trivette and Rev. Michael Post leading the graveside service.
