Mr. Raymond Bagwell, age 83, a well known resident of Gordon County and business entrepreneur, passed away Monday, March 29, 2010, at his residence following several months of declining health. He was born in Gordon County on April 22, 1926, son of the late Howard (Doc) Bagwell and the late Mae Tucker Bagwell.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, J.H., Ralph, and Gene Bagwell.
Mr. Bagwell was known by his friends and family as a hard worker, and was a man who dearly loved his family. He was an avid outdoorsman and hunting enthusiast, having traveled to various parts of the United States in search of wild game.
Mr. Bagwell was a veteran, serving his country in the United States Navy during World War II, and was a member of the New Zion Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Charlene Woody Bagwell; three sons, Mike Bagwell and his wife Sandy, Johnny Bagwell and his wife Maresha, and Jacin Bagwell, all of Calhoun; six grandchildren, Brooke Bagwell Baxter, Nickee Bagwell Hall, Sierra Bagwell, MaKenna Bagwell, Cayla Bagwell, and Joshua Bagwell; four great-grandchildren, Lucca and Rocco Baxter, and Eva and Mailie Hall; and a sister, Wynelle Hensley of Calhoun. A host of nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive.
Services to celebrate the life of Raymond Bagwell will be held Thursday at 4:00 PM from the Calhoun Church of Christ, with Minister Scott Sides, Rev. Lamar Bearden, Jerry Smith, and Eddie Brannon officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery with military honors. Active Pallbearers will include Greg McEntyre, Russell Woody, Mike Tinch, Pat Rasbury, Jan Goble, Bret Meaders, Gene Smith, Devon Brock, and Chris Frix. Honorary Pallbearers will include Calhoun City Fire Department, Billy Jack Hensley, Roy Brown, Jerry Bennett, Don Harrison, Ralph Bagwell, Ronnie Bagwell, Keith Bagwell, Greg Wilbanks, and Dewey Massingill. The family will receive friends Wednesday after 5:00 PM at Calhoun Church of Christ on the Dews Pond Road.
