Peggy Wylene Carter, a beloved member of the Calhoun community, passed away peacefully at her residence on October 5, 2024, at the age of 86, following several years of declining health. Born on September 12, 1938, in Dalton, Georgia, Peggy lived a life devoted to education, creativity, and family. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wyle and Minnie Carter; sisters and brother-in-law, Helen Roberta Carter, Iva Nell Raines and her husband Pete; brother, Billy Paul Carter.
Peggy dedicated a significant part of her career as a teacher aide with the Gordon County Board of Education at Belwood Elementary and Tolbert Elementary, where she touched the lives of countless children. After her retirement, her commitment to the safety and well-being of the community continued as she served as a crosswalk guard for Calhoun City Schools. Although her professional life was centered around education, Peggy's talents extended well beyond the classroom; she nurtured a passion for music, teaching piano to eager students and sharing her love for various musical instruments.
Her artistic flair was evident not only in her musical endeavors but also in her talent as an artist. Peggy found joy in tending to her flower garden, transforming her yard into a vibrant tapestry of blooms that reflected her nurturing spirit and creative vision.
Peggy is survived by her nephew and primary caregivers William Brent and Pamela Denise Carter; great-niece Lilly Carter Timms; great-nephew William N. Carter; and great-great nephew Channing Timms; sister-in-law, Sherry Carter, cousins, Gladys, Hazel, and Charlie.
A visitation in honor of Peggy will be held on October 9, 2024, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, located at 711 College Street, Calhoun, GA 30701. Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Fain Cemetery at 3:00 PM, located at 104 Anabel Ln, Calhoun, GA 30701. Pallbearers serving include Charles Williams, Johnathan Timms, Adam Williams, Adam Williams Jr, and Rudy Najera.
Peggy Wylene Carter's legacy of kindness, artistry, and dedication to her community will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a lasting impact through her contributions to education and her unwavering support for her family and friends.
