Otis Petty Jr.,74, of Calhoun, Georgia died Saturday, April 8, 2023, after a period of declining health. He was born on January 10, 1949, in Gordon County to the late Otis Petty Sr. and Bessie Bradley Petty. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Larry Petty and Ricky Petty.
Otis was a veteran serving in the United States Army, having served in Vietnam and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a graduate of Red Bud High School and from Northwestern Technical College with a Degree in Computer Science Networking. He was a former employee of Fafnir Bearing and prior to retirement he was employed by Mohawk Ind. in maintenance. He was a faithful member of Antioch Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Margie Hales Harkins Petty; sons and daughters-in-law, Kenneth (April) Harkins and Bruce (Robin) Harkins; daughters and sons-in-law, Kay (Grady) Young and Faye (Gary) Timms; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jackie (Kathy) Petty and Jimmie (Suzanne) Petty; sisters and brothers-in-law, Lila (Kenneth) Phillips, Ruth (R.M.) Hice, and Kathy Huff; grandchildren, Nathan Underwood, Tiffany Moore, Cody Timms, Joshua Harkins, Kaleb Harkins, Christopher Timms, Seth Harkins, and Luke Harkins; great grandchildren, Lilly Moore, Chole Underwood, Zane Moore, Emirsyn Timms, Juliana Timms, Nathianel Timms, and Luca Harkins.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 10, 2023, from 12 noon until 2:00 pm at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral will follow the visitation at 2:00 pm from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Randy Muse officiating. The Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. Burial will be in Crane Eater Cemetery.
In lieu of flower the family suggest that donations be made to Antioch Baptist Church, 2666 Dews Pond Rd SE, Calhoun, GA 30701, in his memory.
