Mrs. Otha Mae Barton, age 88 of Resaca, passed away Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Quinton Memorial Health Care Center in Dalton.
She was born on February 23, 1922 in Bartow County, daughter of the late John and Mary Elizabeth Culberson Carey. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Buel Barton, and a son, Bobby Barton. Mrs. Barton enjoyed helping in community affairs and was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church near Resaca.
She is survived by three daughters, Marge Johnson and her husband Tom of Dalton, Dell McBee and her husband Johnny of Resaca, and Tammy Defoor of Boston, Massachusetts; a son, Paul Barton and his wife Patricia of Resaca; a sister, Evelyn Buffington of Alabama; three brothers, Charles Buffington and Arnold Buffington, both of Rome, and Raymond Buffington of Crestview, Florida; and grandchildren, Jason Barton, Jada Barton, Zachary Barton, Megan Barton, Scott Barton, Lisa Smith, Robin Barton, Tina McFadden, Chris Poarch, Jonathan DeFoor, and Jeremy DeFoor. Several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services for Mrs. Otha Mae Barton will be conducted Saturday at 1:00pm from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Calvin Anderson and Rev. Jimmie Timms officiating. Interment will follow in the Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. James Cobb conducting the committal service. Active pallbearers will include Chris Taylor, Earnest Rutledge, Donald Rutledge, Sanford Sisson, Jerry Jackson, and Hubert Long. These gentlemen are requested to meet at the funeral home Saturday at 12:15pm. Music will be arranged by Burt Jeffords.
The family will receive friends at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home Friday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
