Obituary

Mildred Lorraine Brown Hendrix passed away in Atlanta, GA on Tuesday, December 15, 2020, following an extended illness. She was born on November 7, 1924, in Conasauga, TN to the late Robert Daniel Brown and Mattie Sue Staten Brown. She is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Walter N. Hendrix, her parents, brothers, Edward Lamar Brown, Thomas Lee Brown (infant), Arnold Gerald Brown, and sister, Louise Brown Causby.
She is survived by her son, Newt Hendrix (Kathy) of Dallas, GA, daughter, Sue Hendrix of Decatur, GA, grandchildren, Jennifer Hendrix, Brian Lee Hendrix (Megan) two great-grandsons, sister, Lois Brown Thompson, brother, Roland D. Brown (Peggy) numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Mildred was a graduate of Red Bud High School (Class of 1942) and as a young lady, she was very active in sports, especially softball and basketball. During World War II, she was employed as a shipbuilder for J. A. Jones Construction Co. in Brunswick, GA. She relocated to Atlanta and enjoyed employment with Richs Department Store in the late 1940s. For most of her adult life, she was a homemaker to her family and engaged within her community.
As a member of the Baptist faith, she leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and care for her immediate family, as well as her extended family.
A Graveside Service will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020, at 2:00 PM at Oakland Cemetery in SE Atlanta, with Dr. Brian E. Clark and Rev. David Williamson officiating. COVID 19 protocols are encouraged. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimers Association by clicking https://www.alz.org or the American Cancer Society at https://www.cancer.org/.
There will be a private visitation for the family at the funeral home on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
A word of appreciation is extended to Morning Pointe of Calhoun and The Madeline of Decatur, health care facilities where Mrs. Hendrix resided in the last years of her life.
