Mattie Sue Rogers Robbins passed away at her residence on Sunday, October 22, 2023. She was born May 10, 1928, daughter of the late Thomas and Callie Cowart Rogers. She was a graduate of Sugar Valley High School in Sugar Valley, GA. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Edsel (Red) Robbins to whom she was married 72 years, son Thomas Michael Robbins, brothers James, Robert, Luke, and Gene Rogers, sisters Dorothy Moorehead Blalock, Grace Bowling, Edith Heuither, and Lillian Greeson. Mattie Sue was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Rick Tamplin.
Mattie Sue is survived by her daughters, Ginger (Larry) House of Calhoun, GA and Carol Tamplin of Newnan, GA. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Suzanne House Roberts of Calhoun, GA, Julianne (Mill) Graves of Atlanta, GA, and Sarah (Preston) Hagler of Newnan, GA. Five great grandchildren survive, Mary Roberts of Calhoun, Penn and Arthur Graves of Atlanta, and Eliza and Howie Hagler of Newnan. Mattie Sue is also survived by one sister, Tommie Frix of Calhoun. Many other relatives, nieces and nephews survive.
Mattie Sue was a member of First Baptist Church of Calhoun. She was also a member of the Faith Seekers Sunday School class at First Baptist.
Mattie Sue was primarily a housewife and mother after marriage. She loved her family and devoted her life to loving and taking care of them. Her joy came from cooking for her family, friends, and relatives. She also enjoyed planting a vegetable garden each year and preparing food from the garden for canning or freezing to cook during the winter months, planting flowers each summer in her yard, sewing , and regular shopping trips with her family and friends. In her senior years, she also enjoyed traveling.
Pallbearers serving will be Steve Robbins, Kirk Robbins, Preston Hagler, Mill Graves, Dr. Mitch Frix and Larry House.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Homespun Hospice and caregivers, Inez Owens and Gail Davies.
The family will receive friends and relatives on Tuesday, October 24, from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. at Calhoun First Baptist Church in Calhoun. The funeral will follow at 1:30 p.m. at the church with Dr. Bert Vaughn officiating. Music will be arranged by Karli Rogers and Ronnie Hammontree. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
