Obituary

Mattie Evelyn Bohannon Ray, 92, of Calhoun, Ga died peacefully at AdventHealth following years of declining health. She was born in Rydal, Ga on December 5, 1928 to the late Emory William and Alma Townsend Quarles.She was preceded in death, 1997, by her late husband and the father of her children, Preston Bohannon; her infant daughter, Carolyn Waits and several brothers and sisters.
Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the oldest Charter member of Boone Ford Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, and gardening. She loved spending time with her family and friends and cooking for many.
She is survived by her husband Allen Ray; sons, Walter (Janet) Bohannon and Bryan (Robin) Bohannon; daughters, Edna (Jimmy) Avery, Sendy Stewart (David Barnett); grandchildren, Eric (Renee) Bohannon, Chad (Tori) Bohannon, Felicia (Marshall) Greeson, Hali (Jamie) Burns, Frankie Holland, Pam Holland, Sammy Holland, Bobby Hogg, Allen Evans, Robbie Evans, Cynta Stewart, Valerie Talley; siblings, Wilma Reed, Norman Quarles, Brenda Gulledge Bohannon and Jane Dover. She is also survived by 34 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Monday, May 3, 2021 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Boone Ford Baptist Church.
The funeral will be conducted on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Boone Ford Baptist Church, with Rev. Vincent Gulledge and Rev. Gary Quarles officiating. Pallbearers are Eric Bohannon, Chad Bohannon, Trent Bohannon, Marshall Greeson, Samuel Ray, and Tyler Bohannon. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Quarles, Billy Bowers, Ross Quarles, and Steve Benton. Burial will follow in New Zion Baptist Church Cemetery.
The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Mattie Evelyn Bohannon Ray.
