Martha Jane “Pat” Phillips, born on August 10, 1935, in Albany, GA, passed away peacefully in her home in Sugar Valley, surrounded by loved ones, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Pat was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose legacy of love and service touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Pat was the devoted wife of Talmadge Arvel Phillips, who preceded her in death in 1999 after 47 years of marriage. She was the cherished daughter of Walter Hughes, Willie Belle Clark, and Johnnie Clark and the sister of Jackie Edge and Ricky Clark, who have all passed away. She is survived by her siblings Sue Goble (husband Richard) and Ronnie “Mouse” Clark (wife, the late Pam Clark).
Pat’s life was richly blessed with her children, Mike Phillips (wife Anne) and Mitch Phillips (wife Debra). She was the proud grandmother of Amy Phillips, Michael Phillips (wife Jessica), Katie Farley (husband Michael), Melanie Staten (husband Blake), and Patrick Phillips (wife Reena). Her great-grandchildren, Hunter & Lydia Hartsfield, John Michael & Jake Farley, Chandler & Charlie Staten, Skyler Phillips, and Cora & Ellie Phillips, brought her immense joy and pride.
A dedicated member of Sugar Valley Baptist Church, Pat served in numerous roles over the years, particularly on the fellowship team, where her kindness and hospitality were always evident.
In her younger days, Pat was a competitive bowler, showcasing her skill and determination. Known for her impeccable style, Pat always dressed to perfection with coordinated outfits, matching jewelry, and a pocketbook to suit every occasion. She loved adventures and shopping trips with her sisters, which were among her favorite pastimes.
Pat’s love for her family was fierce and unwavering, and she treasured every moment spent with her children and grandchildren. In her final years, Pat was lovingly cared for by two precious caregivers, Wanda Dutton and Linda Bartenfield, who became like family to her and to whom her family will be forever grateful.
The family finds hope and comfort in knowing that she has been reunited with her loved ones, especially her dear husband, Arvel. They are deeply thankful for her relationship with her Savior, Jesus Christ, and the promise that she is with Him today. They hold onto the blessed assurance that they will see her again in Heaven.
Martha Jane “Pat” Phillips will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her memory will forever be a beacon of love, grace, and unwavering faith.
Pat’s family will receive friends Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 PM at Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held on August 3, 2024, at 2:00 PM from Sugar Valley Baptist Church with Rev. Mitch Phillips officiating. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving are Michael Phillips, Patrick Phillips, Hunter Hartsfield, John Michael Farley, Jake Farley, Blake Staten, and Michael Farley.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to The Cream of the Crop Ministries at Sugar Valley Baptist Church.
