Mamie Smith

Mrs. Mamie Garland Smith, age 89, of the Scottsville community, passed away Wednesday, February 14, 2007, in Rome following an extended illness. She was born March 1, 1917, in Cherokee County, Georgia, daughter of the late Dan and Ollie Cantrell Garland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Smith in 1992, a brother, Lon Garland, and two sisters; Myrtle Stover, and Mae Silvers. Mrs. Smith was retired from the textile industry and was a member of the Apostolic Tabernacle in Adairsville.

Survivors include a daughter; Alene Benefield and her husband Ralph of Adairsville; brothers; Monroe Garland of Rome; Mack Garland of Kingston; and a half brother, Grady Garland of Calhoun. One grandchild; Bryon Benefield; two great-grandchildren; Cole and Matt Benefield; and nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Garland Smith will be conducted at 2:00pm on Friday, February 16, 2007, from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Garland, and Rev. J.T. Padgett officiating. Interment will follow in the Lakeview Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include Tom Fowler, Jessie Carver, Ricky Braden, Ed Tatum, Dutch Scott, and Bennett Lee Roberson. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home on Friday at 1:15pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 6:00pm until 9:00pm.
