On Sunday, February 22nd, Lois Brown Thompson died after several years of declining health. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness and dedication to her faith and family.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark R. Thompson and husband Charles R. Thompson. Her parents, Mattie Sue and Robert D. Brown, Siblings: Thomas Lee Brown (infant), Edward Lamar Brown, Louise B. Causby (Steed), Arnold Gerald Brown and Mildred B. Hendrix (Walter), Peggy H. Brown, Charle’s brother, Lawrence Thompson (Dot). Surviving are her brother, Roland D. Brown and their Sister-in-Law, Wandal O. Brown, of Calhoun. Also surviving are nephews, nieces, great and great-great, life-long friends, neighbors, including her special friends, Carol and Bob Cone with their family.
After working in Brunswick, GA during WWII, Lois’ family settled in Gordon County as longtime residents. Lois graduated from Bellwood High School. She went to work at Lockheed shortly after high school and met Charles. Lois and Charles married, making their home in Smyrna for many years. Both retired from Lockheed in Marietta after long successful careers. After retiring, she and Charles hit the road traveling throughout the United States. They had years of enjoyment and adventures together traveling with their Airstream camper while making new friends. Lois was active with her community, Cumberland United Methodist Church, Lockheed Retirement group and Top of GA Airstream club. She was happiest when busy, traveling, visiting with friends and family, sipping her signature cup of coffee and enjoying long walks. Over the years, Lois' generosity has benefited organizations, families, and her church communities. She leaves us with a kind and humble heart that sets a standard for all to aspire.
The family would like to thank The Fountains of Calhoun, The Spires at Berry College, Home Instead (Rome) and Willowbrook Hospice for their care, comfort and support of Lois over these past few years.
