Kenneth Allen Prather departed his earthly life on July 14, 2025. He was born March 24, 1940, to Charlie & Opal Clark Prather, who preceded him in death, along with his sister, Ouida Prather Phipps, and brothers Buck & Jimmy Prather.
He is survived by his wife, Faye; their son, Kirk, and his wife, Cathy; and their grandchildren, Haley, Andy, Liz & Piper Prather, as well as his best buddy, Will Thompson. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Shirley and Jackie Prather, his niece, Vicki Hodges, his five nephews, Tommy Prather, Eddie, Kevin, Lynn & and Bryan Phipps, and numerous cousins and other relatives.
Kenneth served as a Deacon at Blackwood Springs Baptist Church.
He retired from the Georgia State Patrol after 32 years of dedicated service. During that time, he was stationed in Hinesville, Lawrenceville, Canton, and served as Post Commander of Post 43 Calhoun for 19 years just before his retirement.
Kenneth loved deer and turkey hunting with his GSP buddies and enjoyed getting together to talk about old times.
Kenneth was a man of few words, but what he said, he meant, and you would know it was the truth. He was loved by all who knew him, was respected by his fellow Troopers, and was the picture of a Gentle Giant in more ways than one.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. from Blackwood Springs Baptist Church, with Pastor Robert Byron Reeves officiating. Rachel Carter and Lucila Thompson will arrange music. Burial will follow in Chandler Cemetery. Pallbearers serving includes Andy Prather, Tommy Prather, Will Thompson, Capt. Shawn Prather, Eddie Phipps, Kevin Phipps, Lynn Phipps, and Bryan Phipps. Honorary pallbearers include the Deacons of Blackwood Springs Baptist Church, Retired Georgia State Patrol Troopers, and all active and retired law enforcement personnel.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 16th, at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM. His body will be placed in state at Blackwood Springs Baptist Church on Thursday at 1:00 PM until the service hour.
