Joyce Sandrock Puckett

Mrs. Joyce Sandrock Puckett, age 82, of Calhoun, passed away on Monday afternoon, February 26, 2024, in a Calhoun nursing facility.

She was born in Sewickley, Pennsylvania, August 8, 1941, daughter of the late Ashley Donald Sandrock and the late Dorothy Mae Mechler Sandrock. She was a graduate of Quaker Valley High School in the class of 1959 and later graduated from Southern Tech in Chamblee, GA, with two degrees, Industrial Technology and Managerial Industrial Engineering. She worked in banking for over 20 years, working in multiple departments at Calhoun First National Bank. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Berry College in 1991, she worked many years in accounting and comptroller positions.

Joyce met Jerrell Puckett at Southern Tech and were married in November of 1961. They moved to Calhoun, GA in January of 1963, and almost immediately started attending Belmont Baptist Church, which they were members for over 50 years. Joyce has always loved the outdoors, she did all of the yardwork and gardening. She was an excellent cook and baker. She loved to read and was always active, including regular walks in the evenings. She loved people and loved to socialize and was very active in the church and local community. She and Jerrell loved to travel, but nothing was more important than spending time with their kids and grandkids. She was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerrell Lamonte Puckett and her brother, Paul Sandrock.

Survivors include a son, Keith Puckett and his wife, Pam of Calhoun; a daughter, Katherine Puckett Brock and her husband, Mitchell of Blue Ridge, GA; grandson Cody Puckett and his wife Peyton, of Resaca, GA; granddaughter Mahala Puckett Champion and her husband, Gregory of Fairmount, GA; a great-grandson, Matthew Puckett and great-granddaughter Sloane Puckett, both of Resaca, GA; brother-in-law Gary Puckett and his wife, Sally of Cartersville; a sister-in-law Brenda Puckett, of Cartersville; sister-in-law Gloria Sandrock, of Bluffton, SC; brother David Sandrock and his wife, Sherry of Lawrenceville, GA; brother Robert Sandrock and his wife, Connie of Lexington, KY; and many nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 4:00 PM, from Belmont Baptist Church, with Rev. Mitch Phillips and Rev. Eddie Brannon officiating.  

The family will receive friends at Belmont Baptist Church from 1:30 PM until the service hour on Saturday.
