Mr. Johnie Mack Thompson, 94, of Calhoun, Georgia passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, May 28, 2023 at the residence of his daughter, Peggy Thompson Goss in Beaver Creek, Ohio after a period of declining health. He was born in Ranger, Georgia, the son of the late John Andrew and Maude Sitton Thompson. He was a lifelong resident of Gordon County and was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served from 1951 - 1955. Prior to retirement, he was employed by the Gordon County Sheriffs Department and served as Chief Deputy, and was a member of Coosawattee Lodge #306 Free and Accepted Masons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 73 years, Emily Elizabeth Campbell Thompson on October 29, 2022; a daughter, Nancy Elizabeth Paris and grandson, Brian Goss.
 
Survivors include his daughter, Peggy Thompson Goss (Larry) of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and his son, Johnnie Mack Thompson Jr of Calhoun, Georgia; grandchildren, Jamie Fisher (Dustin), Corey Goss (Suzanna), Jonathan Thompson (Misty), Tanna Johnson (Jacob) and Noah Paris (Zelda); 11 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Christine Wallace along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
 
The funeral service for Johnie Mack Thompson will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023 at 12:30 PM at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Mitch Ralston and Rev. David Peeler officiating. Burial will follow in Campbell Cemetery, 565 Pleasant Hill Road, Ranger, GA 30734 with Masonic graveside rites and honors by the Gordon County Sheriffs Department Honor Guard and Rev. Stephen Cochran. Pallbearers serving will include, Jonathan Thompson, Corey Goss, Landen Goss, Noah Paris, Jacob Johnson and Dustin Fisher. Honorary pallbearers will include the Gordon County Sheriffs Department.
 
The family will receive friends on Monday, June 5th between the hours of 10:00 AM and 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
