John Ervin Rickett

Mr. John Ervin Rickett, age 99, of Calhoun, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2007, following recent declining health. He was born in Fannin County on December 14, 1907, son of the late Birch and Cannie Walker Rickett. Mr. Rickett was a good honest man, and a loving, devoted family man. He was a farmer and textile worker in his lifetime, and a deacon of South Calhoun Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife; Sudie L. Mary Parker Rickett in October of 1989; a daughter, Eva Nell Rickett Wilson; five brothers; Roy Rickett, Milford Rickett, Lloyd Rickett, Clyde Rickett, and Reno Rickett; and two sisters; Vertie Holbrooks and Laura Peace. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law; J.B. and Norma Rickett; three daughters and sons-in-law; Ruth and Floyd Stancell, Jonnie and Terry Erwin, and Hilda and Charlie Chadwick, all of Calhoun. Ten grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives also survive. Funeral services for Mr. John Ervin Rickett will be conducted Tuesday, July 3, at 1:00pm from the South Calhoun Baptist Church, with Rev. Jacky Waits and Rev. Bobby Causby officiating. Interment will follow in the Bethlehem Cemetery. Active pallbearers are grandsons and will include Barry Rickett, Joseph Chadwick, Clyde Garland, Matt Futch, Mitchell Rickett, Lane Erwin, and Jonathan Purser. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12:00pm Tuesday. Honorary pallbearers will include Bobby Darnell, Paul Lusk, Bobby Causby, and the Deacons of South Calhoun Baptist Church. They are asked to meet at the church Tuesday at 12:45pm. The family will begin receiving friends at the funeral home on Sunday after 5:00pm.
