Jean Marie Savage, 91, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away following two years of declining health on Saturday, August 31, 2024. She was born in Underwood, North Dakota, on May 31, 1933, to the late Isaac and Daisy Berg. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Skubinna, who died while serving his country in World War II; husbands, Ray Savage, Alex Zimney, Frank Canty.
Jean was raised in Underwood, North Dakota, where she was a cheerleader and played saxophone for the Underwood High School Band. After high school, she attended Concordia College. Prior to retirement, she was a secretary for the City of Lady Lake, Florida. In 2015, she moved to live on the farm with her granddaughter Darci Sutherland and her husband, Kurt.
She is survived by her four children, Jeffrey (Holly) Savage, of Burlingame, KS; Paula Savage, of Calhoun, GA; Howard (Sherry) Savage, of Goldthwaite, TX; Margo (Doug) Connors, of West Bend, WI; also surviving are Alex Zimney's children, which she helped raise, Bruce Zimney, of Garrison, ND; Randy Zimney, of Detroit Lakes, MN; best friend and sister, Faye Ann Luscombe, of Kalamazoo, MI; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren also survive.
The family would like to thank her nurses and the staff at Gordon Health Care as well as Affinis Hospice for their compassion and care.
To honor her wishes, her body was cremated. A private service to celebrate her life will be held at a later date.
