Obituary

Rev. J. E. Glass, 96, a well-known pastor and evangelist of Calhoun, Georgia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, August 25, 2022. He was born in Chatsworth, Georgia on July 2, 1926, to the late Henry and Essie Burks Glass. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters-in-law Arvil and Robbie Glass, Tommy and Thelma Glass, Marvin and Bessie Mae Glass; sisters and brothers-in-law Laurazell and Max Cochran, Thelma and Boyd Farmer, Jessie Lee and Rembert Cochran, Irene and Dewey Casey, Odell and Frank Brown; grandsons Dennis Glass and Kenneth Bennett.
He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years, Lucille Cornwell Glass; sons and daughters-in-law Elvin and Freda Glass, David and Tammy Glass; daughters and sons-in-law Betty and Alan Bennett, Judy and Mitchell Patterson; grandchildren, Johnathan Bennett, Stephanie Bartlett, Sarah Dobson, Wayne Patterson, Daniel Patterson, Brandon Glass, Colton Glass; great-grandchildren, Zach Bennett, Austin Bennett, Brianna Bennett, Kendra Wilson, Meghan Cantrell, Jaydah Densmore, Weston Densmore, Deacon Dobson, Nora Kate Glass, Dylan Glass, Ezekiel Glass, Paige Daum, Madison Glass, Lily Glass; great-great-grandchild Greyson Cantrell; sister-in-law, Elaine Glass; a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
Rev. Glass pastored many Baptist churches in the area, including Oostanaula, Union Grove, New Prospect, Evergreen, New Zion, Center Hill, Morning Side Drive, South Cohutta, Bibleway, and Mountain View. He was an evangelist in several states and has a radio broadcast from Friendship Baptist Church in Mexico, Missouri. He did mission work in Haiti and was a member of Canaanland Baptist Church. J.E. proudly served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Japan during World War II.
The funeral service for Rev. J.E. Glass will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from Canaanland Baptist Church with Bro. Isaac Johns and Bro. R.V. Stanley officiating. The church choir will be in charge of the music. Burial will follow in Canaanland Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers serving will include, Dillon Glass, Jonathan Bennett, Wayne Patterson, Daniel Patterson, Colton Glass and Brandon Glass.
The family will receive friends at Canaanland Baptist Church on Saturday, August 27, 2022, from 12:00 Noon until the funeral hour of 3:00 PM..
