Obituary

Mr. J.D. Pettett, 89, of Calhoun, Georgia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, November 24, 2022.
J.D. was born in Fairmount, Georgia, on April 18, 1933, the son of the late David and Bessie Edmondson Pettett. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Annie Mae "Ann" Trulove Pettett, on July 7, 2022; sister and brother-in-law, Gentle Lee and Max Ray Brannon; brother-in-law Robert Trulove and nephew, Brent Brannon.
Prior to his first retirement, he was employed by Daymar Corporation in Marietta, Georgia, and after moving by to Gordon County, he was employed by Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home and later retired due to declining health. J.D. enjoyed serving as a deacon at his church (New Town Baptist Church) and enjoyed greeting evening visitors at the funeral home. He made many friends at Gordon Health Care, where he was affectionately known as the mayor. He was a member of the 1951 graduating class of Red Bud School and was a veteran of the United States Army.
He is survived by a son, Michael Pettett; sister-in-law, Jimmie Trulove of Marietta; nieces and nephews, Eddie and Lynn Brannon, Brian and Jill Brannon, of Calhoun, Robin and Danny Padgett of Marietta, Andy Trulove of Adairsville, his adopted family includes, Judy Reeves, Joy, Ella, and Evan Reeves, Jim Woods, Sam Brown, Jessica King, Kailey, Abby, and Cory.
The funeral service will be held Tuesday, November 29th at 3:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Stacy Hensley and Eddie Brannon officiating. Music will be arranged by Karli Rogers. Pallbearers serving will include Emory McEntyre, Michael McEntyre, Dwight Gentry, Dr. Garry Tate, Eddie Brannon, and Matt Brannon.
A gathering of friends and family will be held between the hours of 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at the funeral home Tuesday prior to the funeral service.
It is requested that flowers be omitted and donations be made in memory of J.D. and Ann Pettett to New Town Baptist Church, 897 New Town Church Road NE,
