James Obie Marsingale

James Obie Marsingale, 88, of Fairmount, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024. He was born on February 24, 1936, to the late Obie Lee and Dollie Ray Marsingale. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Marsingale, and brother Marlin Marsingale.

James and Betty met in their childhood and began dating shortly after high school graduation. He was saved and baptized at Pleasant Olive Baptist Church. He later joined Salacoa Baptist Church, where he was a faithful member and served as Deacon for many years. In his younger years, James enjoyed fishing and trips to Pigeon Forge with his wife and children, and later, he continued the tradition with his grandchildren. In the summertime, James would spend his time working in his garden, coaching his son Gary’s baseball team, and watching the Atlanta Braves play. He worked for the Georgia Department of Transportation (DOT) for 34 years. He also loved the auction business and held his auctioneer’s license for over 40 years and owned Oakman Auction. During his retirement, he became fond of breakfasts at KC’s Corner with his breakfast buddies. James enjoyed his time with all his family, grandchildren, and his little buddy, Samuel.

James is survived by his wife, Betty Townsend Marsingale, to whom he was married for 65 years; daughter, Marlis Marsingale; grandchildren, Megan (Jayson) Willis, and James Conor Greenway, and great-grandson, Samuel Willis. Nieces and nephews also survive.

The funeral will be conducted Friday, May 3rd at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Reggie Temples, Rev. Ronnie Howard, and Rev. Dan Willis officiating. Interment will follow in Salacoa Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers serving include Randy Townsend, David Townsend, Maurice Townsend, Jamey Owens, Donald McReynolds, and Johnnie Freyermuth. Honorary Pallbearers include Tony Marsingale, Dennis Marsingale, and KC's Corner Breakfast Buddies. 

The family will receive friends on Friday, May 3rd, from 12:00 PM until the funeral hour of 2:00 PM.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Oaks Personal Care Home in Fairmount, GA, and the staff of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home for their love and support during this difficult time.
