James B. Hopper

Mr. James B. Hopper, 85, of Calhoun, Georgia departed this life, Wednesday, September 13, 2023 while surrounded by his loving family, at AdventHealth Gordon after a brief illness.

Mr. Hopper was born June 19, 1938 in Calhoun, Georgia, the son of the late James Clifton “JC” Hopper and Pearl Mariah Chastain Hopper. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Margaret Kay Hopper to whom he was married for 40 years; brother, Joseph “Joe” Madison Hopper; sister, Claira Elizabeth Hopper Langley; grandsons, DJ Wofford, and infant Garrett Michael Miller.

Mr. Hopper was a member of the 1959 graduating class of Calhoun High School; he was a Mason for 54 years and a member of Sonora Lodge #221 F&AM, professional truck driver for 42 years with 6 million no fault accident miles, having driven for Meadowbrook Dairy, Carriage Industries, The Dixie Group, Shaw Industries, and North Georgia Warehouse Inc. His hobby were woodworking and cabinet making. He served seven years in the Georgia National Guard, enjoyed camping with all his friends and was a member of Salem Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Odessa Hopper; children, Pam (Jeff) Shope, Donna (Wylie) White, Cindy (Mike) Miller, Lamar (Connie) Wofford, Melesa Williams, Melinda Rogers; eleven grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A service to celebrate the life of James B. Hopper will be held Sunday, September 17, 2023 from Salem Baptist Church with Pastor Drew Elrod officiating. Honorary pastors are William (Jane) Roberts and Gary (Sue) Hibberts. Music will be arranged by Paul Sneed and Retha Schwanbeck. Burial will follow at Blackwood Springs Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Rites. Pallbearers serving will include, Ancil Stewart, P.J. Haney, Curt Jones, Jordan Smith, Jonathan Rogers, Rob Wofford, and Ethan Wofford. Honorary pallbearers include Ken Conner Sunday School Class, Rusty Moore, Johnny Worley, Danny Lovinggood, Larry Wright, Eddie Hilley, Dale McDougle, Harry Chitwood, Larry Rogers, Steve Cochran, and Tommy Hall.

The family will receive friends at Salem Baptist Church, McDaniel Station Road, Calhoun, Georgia, 30701 on Saturday, September 16^th between the hours of 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM and on Sunday, September 17^th from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at the church.
