Irene Garland Hendrix, 85, of Calhoun, died Wednesday, December 27, 2017. She was born in Cherokee County on November 2, 1932, daughter of the late Lon and Dorothy Garlin Garland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Jerry Davis in 1989, and a brother, Troy Garland.
Irene enjoyed the outdoors, and loved to do all types of needlework. She was an avid story teller. She loved to cook, and was known for her mashed potatoes, her coca cola cake, and her chicken and dumplings. Irene retired from Integrated Products, and was a member of Eastview Baptist Church in Rome.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Larry and Linda Sue Yocum of Calhoun; her brother and sister-in-law, Lee and Rebecca Garland of Adairsville; grandchildren, Keith Ralston and Brent Hughes; great-grandchildren, Jessica Gilbert and Cailin Hughes; and a great-great grandchild, Ayden Gilbert.
Services to honor the life of Irene Garland Hendrix will be held Sunday, December 31st at 2:00 PM from the chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Charlie Carney officiating. Music will be arranged by Eddie Baldwin. Interment will follow in Haven of Rest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will include Dwayne Metcalf, Milton Payne, Phillip (Buster) Goss, Tim Brown, and Cary Hall.
The family will receive friends on Friday, December 29th, and Saturday, December 30th, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, and on Sunday, December 31st for one hour prior to the service.
