Helen Gowens Weaver

Helen Dupree Gowens Weaver, 92, of Rome, formerly of Calhoun, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 10, 2023.

Helen was born in Ranger, Georgia on September 9, 1930, the daughter of the late Alvie John Dupree and Effie Dale Roberson Dupree. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of her children, Ellis Gowens; Mac McDonald and Carl Weaver; granddaughter, Shonta Harris; brothers, Paul, Emmett, Ernest, Preston, Alfred and Silas Dupree; sisters, Mae Dupree Floyd and Mattie Dupree Taft; nephew, Bobby Dupree. prior to retirement she was a licensed cosmetologist and owned and operated Helen’s Beauty Shop.

Survivors include three daughters, Terresa Gowens Harris, Sheila Gowens Hunt - Ellington and Shirley Gowens Slaughter; one son, Ellis Maurice Gowens and his wife Martha; grandchildren, Carl Peeler, Carmen Peeler, Selena “Mache” Johnson (Justin), Ashley Howell (Blake), Stephanie Massey (Cory), Patric Ellington (Sham), Sarah Conner (Jason), Nathan Ellington (Samantha), Tyler Ellington (Jessica) Austin Hunt and Justin Hunt; great grandchildren, Candice, Kilian, Trinity, Spencer (Celeste), Jackson (Haley), Ayden, Gillian, Emerie, Lathan, Monroe, Jayden, Kylah, Brayden, Evie, Natalie, Jenna, Taylor, Alena, and Jonathan.

A service to celebrate the life of Helen Dupree Gowens Weaver will be held Monday, March 13th at 1:00 PM from Calhoun Community Church on WC Bryant Parkway. The family will receive friends at the church between the hours of 11:00 AM and 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow the service in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include Carl Peeler, Kilian Chapman, Jackson Jones, Spencer Jones, Austin Hunt, Ayden Johnson and Cory Massey.
