Hazel Weaver Bagwell

May 18, 1936 — March 7, 2024

Hazel Weaver Bagwell, 87, a lifelong resident of Gordon County, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2024. She was born on May 18, 1936, to the late Marvin and Pearl Weaver. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Bagwell. 

Hazel was a member of the 1954 graduating class of Resaca High School and was class valedictorian, and a 1958 graduate of Berry College, where she received her teaching degree. She taught at Red Bud High School for 15 years. Before retirement, she was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture for the local Farm Service Agency. She was a member of Meadowdale Baptist Church.

Hazel is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Allene Bagwell of Cumming, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Jill and Brad Canady of Swainsboro, Georgia; brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Rochelle Weaver; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marilyn and Dale Hice, Carolyn and John Perry; grandchildren, Lauren Canady, Olivia Canady, Ella Kate Canady, Ava Bagwell, and Sam Bagwell. 

The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 10, 2024, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. 

Funeral services will follow on Sunday, at 3:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Steven Pearson officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve Holsomback, Van Holsomback, Brian Bagwell, David Bagwell, Keith Bagwell, Michael Hice, Todd Hice, Adrian Hice, and Chuck Weaver.
