Gertrude Sexton Parsons

December 26, 1910 — January 15, 2007

Mrs. Gertrude Sexton Parsons age 96, of Calhoun passed away Monday January 15, 2006 at Calhoun Health Care Center. She was born in Gordon County on December 26, 1910 daughter of the late Lee and Pearl Hammonds Gravitt. She was a retired Kinder Garden Teacher of the community and was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.

Mrs. Parsons was preceded in death by her first husband Taft Sexton in 1973 and by her second husband D.C. Parsons to whom she was married to for ten years. One daughter; Margaret Gravitt, five brothers; Perino, Vell, Vollie, Dell and Agbert Gravitt and four sisters; Alma Beason, Neta Owens, Jeffie Powell and Bessie Phipps also preceded her in death.

Survivors include her son Ronald Sexton and his wife Delores of Calhoun. Two step daughters; Barbara Dobbs of Calhoun and Madge Smith of Dalton. One sister-in-law; Margaret Gravitt of Calhoun, two grandchildren and four great grandchildren also survives.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Gertrude Sexton Parsons will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. from the Antioch Baptist Church with Rev. Woody Lee and Rev. William Roberts officiating. Interment will follow in the Fain Cemetery with Rev. James Braddy conducting the graveside rites. Pallbearers serving will include Russell Sexton, Doug Jones, Derek Gravitt, Ken Gravitt, Ron Dobbs, Lynn Phipps, Kevin Phipps, Eddie Phipps and Bryan Phipps. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. The family will receive friends at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 9:00 p.m.
