Obituary

G. Darwin Martin, 65, of Calhoun passed away August 11, 2021 while on a trip to the Dominican Republic. Darwin was born in Fulton County on April 29, 1956 to the late Edith and Jack Martin. In addition to her parents, Darwin was preceded in death by her stepmother, Evelyn Martin; brother, Jack David; sister-in-law, Toni Martin; niece, Beth Martin; mother-in-law, Margaret Gobbel; brother-in-law, Frank Gobbel.
Darwin spent her early childhood in Avondale Estates, GA. She later moved to Quincy, FL with her father and stepmother. She graduated high school from Bartrum, an all-girls residential school in Jacksonville, FL. Darwin studied at Young Harris College and Georgia Southern majoring in Therapeutic Recreation. She later obtained a masters of social work degree from Clarke-Atlanta University. Throughout her career as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and throughout her life, Darwin was committed to helping others. In addition to having her own private practice, Darwin had worked at Vocational Rehabilitation Services, Paulding Enterprises, Flowering Branch Childrens Shelter (Bartows Advocate For Children), Morningstar Children and Family Services and AseraCare Hospice. Darwin was a generous, caring person with a passion for reading, traveling, and swimming.
Darwin is survived by her life partner of 18 years, Carol Gobbel; brother and sister-in-law, Tony Martin and Genie Certain; nieces, Lane Martin (Dale), Kelly Layton (Brent); nephew-in-law, Phillip Gobbel (Jacque); great nephews, Austin Peters (Ivy), Lee Peters, Davis Layton, Luke Layton, David Gobbel; sister-in-law, Ellen Martin; grandson, Maddox Parker; and many dear friends.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to many caregivers for their loving help and friendship given to Darwin with special thanks to Amanda Bell, Barbara Sloan, Darlene Connell, Manisa Goodnight, and Sharon Bray.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 11:00 am until 1:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
A memorial service celebrating the life of Darwin Martin will be held Saturday, August 28, 2021 at 1:00 PM. Rev. Eddie Brannon will officiate. Bonita Harbinson will give the eulogy and Desi Parker will be in charge of music for the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Susan Komen Breast Cancer Organization (komen.org) or to your favorite charity.
