Eugene David Gillespie, 96, of Plainville, GA, passed away on Friday morning, August 26, 2022, at home surrounded by his family. He was born on January 28, 1926, in Moulton, AL, to Houston D. Gillespie and Bessie Brooks Gillespie.
Eugenes family relocated to Plant City, FL in 1937 and made their home in Turkey Creek, FL. In 1945, Eugene answered the call to arms in the United States Army; as WWII raged on, he was deployed to the Japanese theater, spending most of his time in Okinawa, where he was stationed throughout the remainder of the war.
He then returned home to Plant City, where he later met and married the love of his life, Martha Fae (Collier) Gillespie, in June of 1957. In November of 1958, they welcomed their son, Dick (Richard) D. Gillespie. Eugene retired from Ed Morse Cadillac in Tampa, FL. as a highly sought-after front-end specialist in the early 1990s. He was a very hard worker, always with a smile on his face, loved by all who had the privilege of meeting him. Eugene and Martha resided in Turkey Creek, FL, until approximately 1998 and relocated to Ashville, AL where Martha was born and raised. Then in 2008, they moved in with their son and daughter-in-law in Plainville, GA.
