Ella Jean Hawkins

Ella 'Jean' Carden Hawkins, 87, of the Oostanaula Community, departed this life on March 30, 2026, following a brief illness.

She was born in Gordon County, Georgia on September 21, 1938, the daughter of the late Annis M. Carden and Eula Nichols Carden. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Helton Hawkins in 2022, and by a grandson, Matthew Ryan Parmer in 2021; sisters, June Bearden, Evelyn Garren; brothers, Glenn Carden, and Herbert Carden.

Jean attended Liberty School and was a graduate of Calhoun High School. Prior to retirement, she was employed by Clark, Davies, Easley, and Pool Insurance Agency in Dalton for 25 years. She was a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church.

Jean dearly loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, they were the light of her life.  She loved her church family and was faithful in attendance until her illness.  She will be deeply missed. 

Survivors include two daughters, Kristina Parmer and her husband Marty, Cynthia Hawkins and Ken Tarpley; son, Darryl Hawkins, and his wife Cara; grandchildren, Emily and Ryan Clance, Carrie Hawkins, Ella and AJ Hayes, and Leigh Parmer; great grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charles, Gabriel, Emmett Parmer, and Lane Hayes.

A service to celebrate the life of Ella Jean Carden Hawkins will be conducted Thursday, April 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM with Pastor Jerry Adair officiating. Bud and Vicki Owens will have charge of the music. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery with the Deacons of Trinity Baptist Church serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 2, 2026, at Trinity Baptist Church from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
