Obituary

Dr. Marion Atkinson, 79, of Sylvester, Georgia, a well-known and highly respected evangelist, went to be with his Lord and Savior on July 28, 2022, following a heart attack while he was in Ashville, NC preaching a meeting. He preached and evangelized for over 57 years. He pastored and started new churches all over the southeast. Including, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida. He was saved at the age of 21 and answered the call into the gospel ministry at the age of 22. He attended seminary at Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Hendersonville, NC. He also served under Dr. Sammy Allen and the Concord Missionary Baptist Church pastor, Randy Sutherland at the Faith Baptist Camp for the past 46 years. His hobbies were rebuilding trucks and cars, fishing and hunting, as well as yard work, and an annual garden.
He was born in Winnsboro, SC on July 23, 1943, the son of the late, Willie and Sadie Atkinson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cliff Atkinson and Grady Atkinson, sister, Jean Goff, and step mother Ethel Mae Corbett.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Virginia Atkinson, son Ricky Atkinson, daughter Teresa Barfield, and son Samuel Atkinson, all of Sylvester, GA. Son-in-law Jeff Barfield, and daughter-in-law Labreeska Atkinson. He also leaves behind 4 grandchildren. Shelby Atkinson, Keenan Atkinson, Nicholas Barfield, and Jakin Atkinson; brother and two sisters, James & Linda Atkinson of Florence, SC, James & Nancy Corbett, of Lenoir, NC and Shelby Atkinson of Orangeburg, SC; and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, and nieces and families all over the southeast area.
A service to celebrate the life of Dr. Marion Atkinson will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd at 3:00 PM from Concord Baptist Church with Pastor, Randy Sutherland, Bro. Scott Poole, Bro. Bryan Calhoun, Bro. Joe Arthur, and Bro. Jim Seaton officiating. Music will be arranged by Bro. Joe Greer and the Concord Baptist Church Youth Choir, Mark Wheeler, The Morison Sisters, The Dent Family, and Barry Spears. Burial will follow in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery with Bro. Milton Taylor and Bro. Andrew Campbell officiating at the graveside. Pallbearers serving include, Sammy Calhoun, Matthew Poole, Daniel Campbell, Nicholas Barfield, Keenan Atkinson, and, Jakin Atkinson.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1:00PM on Tuesday, August 2nd at Concord Baptist church until the funeral hour.
