Douglas Wayne Wilson

Born April 7, 1951 – Died December 14, 2025

Doug passed away peacefully in Calhoun, Georgia after spending his last days visited by his family and friends. Up until his last moments, he was joking, “cutting up” and pointing upwards for those surrounding him: he knew he was going to Heaven.

Douglas was born to Helen and Joe Wilson in Crystal Springs, Mississippi. As a young boy, Doug loved horses and used to pay a local sharecropper twenty-five cents to let him plow the field with his horse. His love for horses, mules and animals continued throughout his life.

Doug became a Christian in the Marine Corps in Okinawa/Vietnam, and from that time, his main priority was to witness to every person he met. He never met a stranger! He diligently witnessed to his grandchildren and his family and friends and everyone he encountered.

As a Marine in the Vietnam War, he spent two years loading “Agent Orange” onto airplanes in Okinawa. From there, he returned to the US and became father to John Wilson, Rachael Wilson and Jacob Wilson, who passed away at a young age.

For many years, Doug worked for his brother, Robert Wilson, and he loved spending time with him and helping out in his businesses.

The true love of Doug’s life were his grandchildren, Ian Cox, Kingston Rowe, Hailey Wilson, Hagan Wilson, Evin Wilson, Inman Wilson and Adelyn Wilson. He also played a big part in his nieces and nephews lives, including Avery King. He took every opportunity to travel and be with them. His last “big trip” was to attend Hailey’s graduation from University, in Reading, England in July of 2025.

Abigale Reid Story and Phoebe Reid, the daughters of Tim and Stacie Reid – his niece and her husband (who cared for Doug throughout the last 20 years) became his “grandchildren” too. He continued to be grateful for all they did for him and the time they spent to make his last days peaceful.

A passion in Doug’s later years, after retirement, was to spend time hiking in Switzerland with his sister, Rose Ann, and her husband, Michael Leiner, and spend his Christmases and summers together in Aspen, Colorado and London. He traveled extensively with his niece Stacie Wilson Reid and her husband, Tim Reid, to Switzerland, Italy, London, Alaska, Aspen, and the beaches of Florida.

Doug’s life was full mainly because of his Christian faith. He will be missed and loved by all. There will never be another like him. He was a living example of how one can truly be a Christian, and we know that he was ushered into Heaven by a host of Angels!

Well done good and faithful servant! Matthew 25: 23
