Daisy Lee Hughes Hyde, 96, our sweet Memaw and a well-known resident of Gordon County, Georgia, passed away Saturday, December 16, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her family.

Daisy was born in Fannin County, Georgia, May 13, 1927,  the daughter of the late Grover and Daisy Long Hughes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Hyde, in 1983, a son, Justin Hyde in 2014; daughter Wanda June Hyde in 1951, six siblings, G.C. Hughes, Ruby Hughes Stanley, Coyet Hughes, Jessie Hughes Slaughter, Cobell Hughes, and Bertie Hughes Stanley.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Jo Bailey and her husband David, Donna Harkins and her husband Ed; one son, James Hyde, and his wife Susan, nine grandchildren: Allen Bailey, Brian Bailey, Darren Bailey, John Hyde, Jennie Hyde McQueen, Holly Hyde Carpenter, Angela Stanfield Raley, Lorin Stanfield Cameron, and Heath Hyde; 20 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. Darlene, Linda, Karen, Mary Jo, Janice, and Edna were special friends of Ms. Daisy.

Daisy lived on Hyde Road in Resaca and was one of its proudest residents. Mrs. Hyde was an employee of Georgia Tufters for many years. She also cared for many local children. Ms. Daisy was proud to list the Resaca Post Office as her employer in her later years. She was celebrated as one of the citizens of Gordon County and carried our U.S. Olympic torch on its journey to Atlanta for the 1996 Olympic Games. Ms. Daisy was always up for a drive in the mountains with her friends and family. Her infectious smile and caring heart were known by many in our community. 

A service to celebrate the incredible life of Daisy Hyde will be held Sunday, December 17, 2023, at 5:00 pm at the chapel of Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home. Kevan Carpenter and Dr. Garry Tate will officiate. A private family graveside will be held Monday, December 18, 2023, at Hill City Cemetery.

Pallbearers serving include Allen Bailey, Brian Bailey, Darren Bailey, John Hyde, Kevan Carpenter, Heath Hyde, and Toby Holland. The great grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Sunday, December 17, 2023, between the hours of 2:00-5:00 pm at the funeral home.
