Clinton Noel Smith, 87, of Ranger, Georgia, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. He was born on October 16, 1937, in Pickens County, Georgia, to the late Carl Clifford Smith and Mima Jo Silvers Smith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lee Smith.
Clinton was a graduate of Ellijay High School, class of 1955. He served as the FFA Vice President and several other clubs. He loved sports, especially football. Clinton was employed by Sears in Atlanta, Georgia, and was a livestock and poultry farmer for 32 years in Gilmer County.
Clinton was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in Germany as a military policeman for 2 years. He also served 4 years standby reserves during the Vietnam conflict. He received several awards, his most prized being the USARR Good Soldier Award. He was a longtime member of the Calhoun Post of the American Legion.
Clinton is survived by his son, Joey Smith; sister and brother-in-law, Tina and Ronnie Mathis; niece, Sonya Coats; and nephew, Kent Mathis. Other relatives survive.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM at Hopewell Baptist Church.
The funeral service will follow on Saturday at 11:00 AM from Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Jeremy Southers and Rev. Reggie Temples officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers serving are David Moss, Gavin Stafford, Ethan McNabb, Brian Crump, Ronnie Matthis, and Kent Matthis. Honorary pallbearers are Jim Crump, David Long, and Hudson Moss.
Per the family’s wishes, flowers will be omitted.
