Claire Harris made the world a brighter, better place. Claire passed away in her sleep on July 4th, 2025, at the age of 66, to be with the Lord.
Born February 6th, 1959, in Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Julia and Lewis Phillips. Claire’s parents purchased their first home in Carrollton, Georgia, next door to the Carrollton Baptist Church, where her father served as a deacon and her mother served as the church secretary for 23 years. It would later serve as the church where she and her husband, Marlon, would marry on May 6th, 1992. Life was simple and good. For their family pastime, Claire and her father often rode horses together, which forged her love for the equine lifestyle.
Claire met the love of her life, Marlon J. Harris, at the Johnny Daniels Roping Arena in Bremen, Georgia, in 1986. Their devotion to each other was unshakable, and Marlon supported all the four-legged animals Claire rescued, as their house was never empty of the pitter-patter of their extended animal family. At any given time, there were dogs, cats, horses, geese, and ducks that made up their cozy life.
With a love for the outdoors, Claire was always outside, cleaning the barn, mowing the grass, riding her horses, and was an avid gun collector, belonging to a women’s gun group. Claire was a great horsewoman and competed successfully with wins at the American Paint Horse World Show and the All-American Quarter Horse Congress.
Throughout her life, Claire held an unwavering faith in God. She was a faithful servant of the Lord and a devoted member of Ranger Baptist Church of Ranger, Georgia, where she participated in several outreach programs to help those in need: sourcing clothing for the needy, quilting blankets, and serving the community. Professionally, she was a dental assistant and went on to become an EMT.
Claire joins her parents and sister Barbara Phillips in Heaven. She is survived by her husband, Marlon J. Harris, the love of her life, and her nephews, Kade Thomas Phillips and Ryan Phillips, of Carrollton, Georgia.
The death of Claire is mourned, but there is comfort in the belief in Christ's resurrection and the certainty of future reunification in God's eternal kingdom. A celebration of life will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 1170 Rome Road SW, Calhoun, Georgia, on July 26, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm for remembrance and 3:00 pm for the service.
