Obituary

Christopher Allen Duke went home to be with his Lord at the age of 51 years old on Friday, July 15, 2022 at Gordon Hospital. Chris is preceded in death by his grandparents, B.L. and Bobbie Johnston and James and Nedra Duke, as well as an uncle, Michael Duke.
Chris was born on November 20, 1970 and grew up in Center Point, AL. He lived around the Birmingham area most of his life, until moving to Georgia in 2016 with family. He was a graduate of Gardendale High School in 1989. Chris was a member of First Baptist Church of Center Point and sister church, Crosspoint, until he moved to Georgia and joined Belmont Baptist Church. He loved his churches and church families and wanted to be there any time the doors were open. He took pride in working at St. Vincents East in Roebuck for 16 years, until he was forced to retire due to Parkinsons Disease.
Chris was well known everywhere he went. If he ever met you once, he remembered your name and made a point to greet everyone by name when he saw them. He is remembered and loved for encouraging others and making others feel special. He loved music and attending contemporary Christian concerts and always wanted to hang around for an autograph. He had an extensive CD collection and many of them were signed. He also loved animals and had many special cats over the years. He wanted to pet any cat or dog that he came across. He was very active in the Birmingham Special Olympics and won a gold medal for ice skating in the International Special Olympics in Nevada. He also loved swimming, going to the gym, and eating at Waffle House.
Chris is survived by his parents, Donna and Sam Duke of Adairsville, GA; sister, Amy (Jason) Carey of Calhoun, GA; nephews, Andrew and Blake Carey of Calhoun, GA; special aunt, Lynne (Jack) Burton of Trussville, AL; uncle, Steven Duke of Park City, KY; first cousins, Allison Blythe of Boone, NC, Melissa (Alan) Chappell of Hoover, AL, and Jessica (Andy) Lanham of Salem, IN, as well as many other extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 24, 2022, from 3:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Belmont Baptist Church. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 4:00 PM at Belmont Baptist Church.
The family will also receive friends on Sunday, July 31, 2022, from 2:00 PM until 3:30 PM at CrossPoint Church, located at 8000 Liles Ln, Trussville, AL 35173. A memorial service will follow the visitation at 3:30 PM at CrossPoint Baptist Church.
