Charles Baxter Prater, 78, of Plainville, Georgia, departed to his heavenly home around 3:45 PM Thursday, July 20, 2023. He had lived a great life and was a person of great integrity. His wife Jane said she had never seen him with a negative attitude, he made friends and most were friends for life, he was always ready to help anyone in need. He was a brilliant man with an unbelievable mind that never used the word never. Charles could talk with and mix with people of any stature and treat them all the same. If you had a problem, Charles could work it out for you. He made some mistakes in life, but always rose above them, he was a fighter. At one time, he owned the largest independent trucking company in the nation. He had an entrepreneurial spirit and was very successful in his endeavors.
He was born in Gordon County on October 2, 1944, the son of the late Baxter Prater and Shirley Brownlee Prater. He was a Christian and a faithful member of Plainville Church of God of Prophecy. He loved his church and church family.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Fuller Prater to whom he was married for 44 years; sons, Chris Frix and his wife Rhonda and Charles B. Prater Jr and his wife Kristin; grandchildren, Drake Frix, Tigger Frix. Addison Prater, and Trey Prater,
The funeral service will be held Sunday, July23, 2023 at 3:00 PM from Plainville Church of God of Prophecy. His body will be placed in state at the church Sunday at 2:00 PM.
Pallbearers serving will include Craig Vaughn, Bill Plemons, Drake Frix, Mitchell Atkins, Dusty Windate and Wiley Walden and are asked to meet at the funeral home Sunday at 1:15 PM. Honorary pallbearers will include Thomas Daniels, Daniel Belvin, Stanley Simpson, Tim Mulkey, Wayne Patton, Joey Windate, Mitchell Woody, Mike Holmes, Glen Owensby, Ryan Vaughn, Randy Chandler, Ray Bailey, Kevin Curry, Jerry Smith, Shawn Vanburen, Emilo, Daryl and Jessee. Honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Sunday at 2:30 PM.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 22nd from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Max Brannon & Sons Funeral Home.
