Obituary

Mr. Charles Helton Hawkins, 84, of the Oostanaula Community, Calhoun, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 in Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, GA.
Helton was born in Murray County, Georgia on January 6, 1938, the son of Selma Lane Hawkins and Beatrice Farmer Hawkins. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Ryan Parmer; twin brother, Walter Melton Hawkins; sister, Frances Hawkins Kirby; brothers-in-law, Edward Duvall, Bradley Pelfrey and Garvin Kirby.
Helton enjoyed his farm where he and his family raised Red Angus Cattle, harvested hay, and enjoyed planting a big garden, working in his wood shop, and caring for his muscadine vineyard. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Cabin Craft, West Point Pepperell, and Shaw Industries for 40 plus years; was a member and Deacon Emeritus at Trinity Baptist Church and was a Gideon with the local Gordon County Gideon Camp.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Carden Hawkins to whom he was married for 64 years; two daughters, Kristina Hawkins Parmer and her husband Marty, Cynthia Hawkins and Ken Tarpley; son, Darryl Hawkins and his wife Cara; grandchildren, Emily Parmer Clance and her husband Ryan, Carrie Hawkins, Ella Hawkins, and her fianc, AJ Hayes; granddaughter-in-law, Leigh Bird Parmer; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Charles, Gabriel, and Emmett Parmer; sister, Lyndell Duvall Pelfrey; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A service to celebrate the life of Helton Hawkins will be held Wednesday, June 29th at 4:00 PM from Trinity Baptist Church with Eddie Brannon officiating. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery. Music will be arranged by Bud and Vicki Owens. The Deacons of Trinity Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be Deacon Emeritus of Trinity Baptist Church.
The body will be placed in state at Trinity Baptist Church where the family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 29th between the hours of 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
In addition to floral tributes, donations can be made in Heltons memory to the local Gordon County Camp of Gideons International.
The Brannon family and staff are honored to serve the family of Helton Hawkins.
