Carolyn Hayes

Mrs. Carolyn Hayes, age 74, a well known resident of the Farmville community, passed away Monday, June 4th, 2007, at her residence. She was born in Eastman, GA February 11, 1933, daughter of the late Rev. Graham and Nancy Helen Lowery Bowen. Mrs. Hayes was a housewife and retired poultry producer, and a member of Farmville United Methodist Church. She graduated from Norman College in 1950 and moved to Calhoun to teach.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Hayes on May 5th, 2007, to whom she was married for 56 years; parents, Rev. and Mrs. Graham Bowen, a daughter, Nancy Joyce Hayes, and grandson, George Kenneth Mauldin.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law; George Kenneth Hayes, Jr. and Laura; two daughters and sons-in-law; Sue and Mac Hite, and Jerri and Rev. Steve McDougle, all of Calhoun; one sister and brother-in-law; Geraldine and Ed Horne of Eastman, GA; two loving sisters-in-law; Betty Stewart, and Marge Tolbert; two brothers and sisters-in-law; Billy and Dovie Hayes, and Billy and Nan Barnette; two aunts; Lura J. Hall of Eastman, GA, and Mrs. Wanda Lee Steffensrude of Pleasant Hill, CA; eleven grandchildren; Robin Montgomery, Lisa Towe, Hank Mauldin, Alan McDougle, Christy Jackson, Chet Hite, Nikki Volek, Cody and Cory Hayes, Ashley Davenport, and Trevor Bush. Thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Carolyn Hayes will be conducted Thursday, June 7, 2007, at 3:00pm from the Farmville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Guy Kent, Dr. James Shope, Rev. Darris Baker and Rev. Gary Hibberts officiating. Music will be arranged by Rev. and Mrs. Darris Baker, Burt Jeffords and Linda Walter. Mrs. Hayes will lie in state at the church from 2:00pm until 3:00pm on Thursday. Interment will follow in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include grandsons; Hank Mauldin, Alan McDougle, Chet Hite, Cody Hayes, Cory Hayes, Matt Volek, Brian Towe, Bill Carlson, and Trevor Bush. These gentlemen are asked to meet at the funeral home Thursday at 1:30pm. Honorary pallbearers will include the George Hayes Sunday School Class, Young Farmers Association, FFA Alumni, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Owens, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Payne, Mr. and Mrs. Billy Erwin, Mr. and Mrs. Burt Jeffords, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dyer, Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Wilson, Mrs. Fannie Jackson, Jean' Williams, Patricia Ross, Tammy Green, and Alan Fuller. Honorary pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Thursday at 2:45pm. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, beginning at 12:00 noon.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Mrs. Hayes name to Nan Barnette for a scholarship fund to Gordon Central and Sonoraville High Schools for music. Donations may also be made to Heyman Hospicecare at Floyd, P.O. Box 163, Rome, GA, 30162-0163, for their wonderful care.
