Carla Ross Payne McMorris, 48, of Resaca, Georgia, passed away on Monday, August 17, 2026. She was born on June 30, 1978, to Eleanor Ann Payne and the late Sam Millard Payne.

Carla served as the first woman president for the Georgia Young Famers Association. She was also one of the founding members and officers for the Gordon County Young Farmers Association. Carla also served as the president for the Georgia Cattlewomen’s Association and Red Carpet Cattlewoman’s Association. She represented Gordon County Farm Bureau and the district on the state fruit and vegetable commodity for numerous years and also represented Gordon County for the Soil and Water Conservation Board. Carla was appointed to serve on the Georgia Grown Board.

Carla is survived by her husband, Robert “Wesley” McMorris; stepdaughter, Madison Faith McMorris (Darian); mother, Eleanor Ann Payne; brother, Millard Payne; sister, Mary Payne Manning (Bruce) and children, Shayna (Jesse) and Colt, Breana and Matthew; four brothers-in-law; one sister-in-law; beloved nieces who she considered her daughters, Hannah Faye McLane, Shelby Bennett (Kyle) and their children who she considered her grandchildren, Baker Bennett, Margo Bennett, Scarlett McLane, and Benjamin McLane; godchildren, Gracy Tompkins (Jacob), Layla Fox, Kayla Fox, Luke Fox, Lindsey Thomas, Ely Fox, and Hub Fox; many special friends, Sonny and Amy Fox, Darren and Carly Sexton, Brandy Black, Jerry Kelly, and Sandy Heubner Kelly, who was also her mentor; and many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at 2:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers are Sonny Fox, Luke Fox, Ely Fox, Hub Fox, Darren Sexton, Jacob Tompkins, Kyle Bennett, Mike Stamey, Tony Petty, and members of the Young Farmers Association.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to the Payne Family Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 246, Calhoun, GA 30703.
