Obituary

Mr. Billy James Johnson, 88, of Gordon County passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, December 17, 2021.
Mr. Johnson was born in Edwardsville, Alabama on August 30, 1933, son of the late Rufus and Jessie Cheatwood Johnson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Larry Petty. He was a high school graduate and prior to his retirement he was associated with the carpet industry and was a member of Erwin Hill Church of God.
Survivors include his loving wife of 69 years, Melvie Newborn Johnson of Calhoun; daughter, Glenda Petty; son, Wendell Johnson; sisters, Erlene Pesnell and her husband Chester, Mildred Harper and her husband Jesse; grandchildren, Nathan Petty, Jamie Petty, Chris Petty, Natasha Petty; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah Petty, Matthew Petty, Michaella Petty, Isabella Petty, Jessie Petty, Christopher Petty and Lance Petty.
Funeral services for Mr. Billy James Johnson will be conducted on Tuesday, December 21st at 11:00 AM from Erwin Hill Church of God with Rev. Chester Pesnell officiating. Teresa Ray will have charge of the music. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers serving will include, Jamie Petty, Matthew Petty, Nathan Petty, Keith Pesnell and Ken Ray.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 21st from 10:00 AM until the funeral hour.
