Betty June Lewis Whitfield, 93, of Calhoun, Georgia, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, July 11, 2026. She was born on October 7, 1932, to the late Fain and Annie Moss Lewis. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Trammell Howard Whitfield; brothers, Troy Lewis (Louise), Herman Lewis, Gene Lewis, Max Lewis, Charles Lewis (Betty Lou), Vernon Lewis (Margaret), and Ralph Lewis (Simmie Belle); sisters, Mildred Strickland (Frank), Denah Underwood (Ford), Vera Stewart (Trammell), Vonnie Truitt (Fred), and Irene Mooneyham (Lawrence).
Betty was the youngest of 13 children. She attended Red Bud Schools and was a 1950 graduate. She was a member of Belmont Baptist Church. Betty loved working at Haney Jewelry for Tim and Sue Haney and retired in 1994.
Betty is survived by her son, Terry Lewis Whitfield; daughters, Gail Fortenberry (Don), Diane Robbins (Steve), Cynthia Proffitt (Tom), and Susan Queen (Travis); grandchildren, Alex Fortenberry (Angel), Sarah Husser (John Scott), Nicholas Robbins, Ashley Smith (Jeremiah), Colin Thomsen (Michelle), Lauren Thomsen, Whit Queen, and Katee Robinson (Trevor); great grandchildren, Helen Husser, Jack Husser, Brooks Caylor, Joseph Smith, Camilla Ferguson, Lane McDonald. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2026, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held on Friday, July 17, 2026, at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Max Brannon and Sons Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Fain Cemetery.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Homespun hospice and her caregivers, Sherri Peardan, Valerie Stafford, Bailey Stafford, and Hailey Stafford.
